Useful information about the flight from Kuala Lumpur to Tehran
Thriving cosmopolitan metropolis
Tehran is a bustling capital offering a wide range of sights and activities to travellers. The capital of Iran is indeed surrounded by the majestic Alborz mountain range and counts numerous museums, restaurants and parks. Visitors are also welcomed warmly by locals in this cosmopolitan city.
When to travel and what to do
The best seasons to travel to Tehran are in spring and autumn, when the weather is mild. Summers are hot and dry in the city, while winters are wet. On Fridays, people have the day off and many shops are closed. In terms of events, a number of celebrations mark the year, such as the anniversary of the Islamic revolution in February. In late March, Newroz is the New Year or spring festival. Other highlights include Republic Day in April and the anniversary of Imam Khomeini's death in June.
Things to note before you go
Visas are required to visit Iran and you need to apply through the consulate well in advance. Also, passports must be valid for at least 6 months and entry may be denied if there is a stamp from Israel. Recommended vaccines are Hepatitis A, Typhus, Tetanus and Diphtheria. In terms of security, it is strictly forbidden to import foreign publications, pork and alcohol, and punishment is severe. Also, it is recommended to avoid demonstrations. The cost of life is lower than in the UK and you should always haggle in markets. You can find snacks like falafel for around 25,000 IRR. In restaurants, prices often do not include tax and service charge so the meal could be more expensive than what appears on the menu.
On arrival in Tehran
From Tehran airport, a shuttle bus operates to Azadi square, with tickets costing about 20,000 IRR. Otherwise, the fare for a taxi should be around 300,000 IRR. The journey takes approximately 80 minutes in both cases.
As for lodging, a double room in a hotel is about 1,000,000 IRR per night.
Buses and the metro are cheap, but the former is slow because of traffic and the latter is sometimes crowded. Single tickets are around 3,000-6,000 IRR. In the metro, the first and last carriages are women only. For private taxis, visitors must agree on the price before boarding the car. Also, shuttle taxis run along major roads in the city.
