Visitors from certain countries are expected to hold a valid polio vaccination certificate. In addition, vaccination against yellow fever may be required. Other recommended vaccinations include tetanus, diphtheria, and hepatitis A. It is advised that women should exercise caution when in Delhi, especially if travelling alone. The cost of living in Delhi is significantly lower than the United Kingdom. A meal for two at a mid-range restaurant is around £10 in Delhi, while in London the cost would be approximately £50. However, expect to pay about the same price for superior quality electronics. The time in Delhi, India, is UTC/GMT +5:30 hours. There is no daylight saving time. During the summer, when clocks go forward +1 hour in the UK, the time in Delhi is GMT +4:30 hours.
Local Delhi transport and accommodation
There are a number of transport options from the airport to the centre, including the Metro 'orange line', which operates from 4:45am until 11:15pm. The journey takes under 25 minutes. Otherwise, use a prepaid taxi or catch the shuttle bus to Connaught Place. Private accommodation in a hostel costs from around 500 rupees (approx. £1.60) for a night. Budget 3 star hotel accommodation is available from about 1400 rupees (£6 or thereabouts) per person per night. Prices can vary depending on the time of year. Delhi is well served by cheap public transport, including rickshaws, buses and metro trains. Pre-paid taxis are readily available, and these also tend to be significantly cheaper then the UK.
