Useful information about the flight route The city of London has long been a popular tourist destination and a cultural hub for theatre, arts, music, museums, fashion and festivals. Major attractions include Madame Tussauds, the London Eye, Buckingham Palace and Harrods.
The weather in London is typically wet throughout the year, although winters are relatively mild. The Notting Hill Carnival occurs on August Bank Holiday at the end of the month and is a major festival. The Chinese New Year is also celebrated big style here in February, and the famous London Marathon and Boat Race are both held in April.
If hiring out a car, be aware of the Inner London Congestion Charge, which is applied during the week. Charges are around £11 per day. London is an expensive destination in comparison to other cities around the world. You can expect to pay higher prices for accommodation at restaurants for food and snacks, and for public transport.
Stansted airport train station is located underneath the airport terminal. Trains provide good access to London, Cambridge, Bury St. Edmunds and Milton Keynes. Fast and reliable train services are available from Stansted to London Liverpool Street Station every 15 minutes. Journey times take around 45 minutes and one-way tickets cost approximately £8. You can save money when you book online. You'll find other South East areas easy to get to, because of the locality of the M25. Use the CrossCountry Trains to link to places like Stansted and Cambridge in as little as 35 minutes. This service is also good to use when travelling to the Midlands and Cambridgeshire. Local buses serve towns in several areas, like Harlow, Colchester and Bishop's Stortford for example, and National Express coaches travel to many other UK destinations. The Easybus operates from Baker Street and Old Street Station in London. The taxi reservation desk is situated in international arrivals. Cheap hostels in London cost around £20 per night, while mid-range priced hotels start from about £40, upwards. A single ticket on London's public transport costs around £5.70 and 1-day Travelcards cost approximately £12 to £15. Purchase an Oyster Card for discounts. You'll need to pay a £5 refundable deposit to get an Oyster Card, which will allow use of the London Underground, overground trains and buses.
