Best travel season for Newquay
Newquay has plenty to keep visitors occupied all year round, but sun seekers looking to spend their time soaking up the rays on the beach should visit in the peak season from June through to August. Surfers will find the best surfing conditions through September and October.
Preparing to go
You can bring your gear if you're coming to surf, but don't worry if you're short on space, as there are dozens of hire shops where you can borrow a board. If you're planning a more sedate trip, start thinking about the local delicacies you want to try - as a coastal town, Newquay has excellent fresh seafood and fish on offer in the many beachfront and town centre restaurants. Other famous West Country treats include traditional cream teas and delicious local cheeses.

Buses from Newquay airport to the city centre are regular and cost about £3, with an average journey time of 25 minutes. Taxis are quicker, taking about 15 minutes into town. There's no rank at the airport though, you'll need to book in advance. Getting out and about once you reach the town is easy, as Newquay can be explored on foot. If you're planning an excursion to a nearby town, there's a good network of local buses; a Day Travelcard costs approximately £10 for adults. On leaving from the airport, all passengers over 16 will have to pay a £5 airport development fee.
