From Lisbon airport terminal 2, visitors need to take a shuttle going to terminal 1, where public transport is available. The metro is open from 6am till one in the morning and a ride to the city centre costs about EUR 2. From the airport, you have to go to Saldanha station and change lines to go to the centre of Lisbon. Taxis are also available, with fares between EUR 15 and EUR 20, and an additional fee of roughly EUR 1 per piece of luggage. They are easier to catch from departures during busy times at the airport. In terms of accommodation in Lisbon, hostel rooms cost around EUR 15 a night, while double rooms in hotels are available for approximately EUR 45. The public transport network is extensive in the Portuguese capital, comprising metro, buses, trams, urban trains and ferries. A single bus ticket costs about EUR 1.50 (more if you buy it on the bus), but day passes are available for around EUR 6. Zapping, which is similar to using an Oyster card in London, allows visitors to get cheaper rates. The rechargeable card 7 Colinas (also called Viva Viagem) offers good value. The Aerobus has 3 routes and a ride to the city centre costs around EUR 3.50, while a basic taxi fare is about EUR 3.50, and then about 50 cents per extra km. While public transport is great, many attractions in Lisbon are quite central and can be accessed on foot.
