Location

First in use in 1985, the airport is about 20 miles north east of Sao Paolo inner city in the metropolitan region of Guarulhos. By car take the BR-116/SP-060 and SP-019 motorways. Coming from the north (Nazare Paulista) take the SP-036. there are a number of bus routes that stop in front of the terminal serving various destinations in the area.

The airport was built to ease the burden of air traffic on Congonhas Airport and to improve international air traffic, as until then almost all international machines were only able to land at Campinas Viracopos Airport about 55 miles away.
