The first scheduled flight followed in the year 2001, on the route from New York to Long Beach, a smaller airport that is in the greater city of Los Angeles. The route from New York to Boston followed in 2004. The company then expanded with lucrative, and above all, cheap flights to holiday destinations in the Caribbean. Once this project had also brought with it financial gains, JetBlue applied for two more departure airports to be included in the licence: La Guardia and Newark. In October 2006, the airline applied for two more slots at airports in state of New York: Newburgh and White Plains.
