Dubai attractions and tips
There are a number of good events to witness and a few dates that you should be aware of that may slow your travelling schedule somewhat. These would include the 2nd of December, which is a national holiday. Moreover, there are a number of Islamic holidays that you should be aware of. However, there are literally countless attractions within Dubai, including the Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Creek, the Wild Wadi Water Park, the Dubai Museum. There are some important tips to remember when travelling within Dubai. Firstly, Dubai is a Muslim country so you need to remember to pay homage to the month of Ramadan when eating and drinking is forbidden during the daylight hours. Please bear this in mind should you be travelling during this time. Dubai also has strict regulations regarding alcohol.
Important information before you travel
Before travelling to Dubai, there are some things that you need to know. British citizen may be able to apply for a 30 day visa on arriving in Dubai. However, there are hefty fines should you overstay your visa. From a cultural standpoint, the locals expect you to haggle when you are at an Arabic marketplace, known as a "souk". Imported goods from Europe will usually be more expensive, but electronics should be cheaper. Likewise, restaurants are much more reasonably priced than in London or the rest of the UK.
Getting to the centre, accommodation and transport
Dubai is at Gulf Standard time, which is three hours ahead of London. Dubai has a good public transport system. At the first and third terminals the red line metro will stop every ten minutes. The "green line" metro bus will stop at the Airport Free Zone by terminal 2, and the metro buses generally run from Saturday to Thursday from 6 am to 11 pm and Friday from 1 pm to midnight.
