Useful information about the flight from Dubai to Manila

An ever growing metropolis

Manila is a city that is increasingly growing as a popular tourist destination. From a rich, cosmopolitan history and heritage, to a vibrant nightlife, the capital of the Philippines offers culture and entertainment to its visitors.

When to visit and events

The climate in Manila is warm and tropical all year. However, typhoons are likely to occur during the rainy season from June to October. The best period to travel is between November and April. The Philippines are a Catholic country and the most important holidays are Easter and Christmas, like in Europe. Additionally, the Feast of the Black Nazarine (Cristo Negro) is celebrated on January 9th. Hundreds of local festivals are also organised on the islands to honour the patron saints.

Important Manila tips

A visa is not required for British citizens for visits of up to 30 days, but passports should be valid for at least 6 months from the day of entry. Vaccines should be up-to-date, as there are risks of cholera, hepatitis A, rabies, tetanus, typhoid and diphtheria. It is important to always carry a form of ID, such as a copy of your passport. Flash floods and landslides are likely to happen during the rainy season. Tap water should be avoided and it is recommended to use bottled water even to brush your teeth. All vegetables and fruit should be either peeled or cooked to prevent infections. It is worth sampling the local cuisine, which blends influences from Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, and American dishes. The cost of life is much lower than in the UK and meals in restaurants are around half the price. The time zone in Manila is PHT, i.e. 7 hours ahead of the UK in summer and 8 hours in winter, and there is no daylight saving time.

Transportation and accommodation

A bus shuttle service operates between Terminal 3 of the airport and Baclaran LRT station (Line 1), from 5am-10pm. Scheduled bus services are also available between Terminals 1 and 2 and the centre, as well as taxis and jeepneys (minibuses). Basic budget hostel accommodation is available for around 500 Philippine Pesos and even luxury hotels are cheaper than in the West. Public transport is very affordable, with tickets for buses, metro and jeepneys at about 22 pesos (approx. 30p). If taking a taxi, visitors should negotiate and agree on the price before the journey.
