The Bol d’Or is a regatta held on Lake Geneva every June. The lake is also the location every August for the Fêtes de Genève, a summer event with an hour long fireworks display. On, or around, the 12th December the city commemorates the L'Escalade, a military victory over the troops of the Duke of Savoy in 1602.

A meal in a restaurant starts at about 20 CHF, which is roughly £14, and a beer costs around 7.50 CHF, or £5. A local speciality is the "Longeole", a type of raw sausage.
