Best Times of the Year to Visit

Tenerife is an excellent year-round holiday destination. North Tenerife tends to be cooler and wetter than the area to the south. The peak season for tourists to flock to Tenerife is from January to April. Flight prices also drop during the winter months, when the hotel prices usually peak. Visit Tenerife during September, when the weather is reliable and accommodation prices are typically lower.
  
Head to Tenerife during February and March for Carneval in Santa Cruz and Puerto de la Cruz. "Dias de las islas Canarias" is May 30. This holiday is celebrated on all of the Canary islands and includes numerous local events with music, dance and fun festivals. Celebrate "Día de la Hispanidad" (Columbus day) on October 12 each year in Tenerife. This Spanish National holiday includes area events and festive parades.


Information to Know Before You Travel

The main beaches and resorts in the south of Tenerife - including Los Cristianos, Playa de las Americas - are quite popular, while the west coast is a bit quieter. Head to the north part of Tenerife for good surfing and hiking. Food and restaurant prices in the Canary islands are a bit lower than in Britain, so feel free to enjoy the local cuisine without breaking the bank. 


Local Tips and Information

From the Tenerife South Airport buses 343, 350 or 111 go to Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje. Bus prices run around EUR3 and the trip take approximately 15 minutes. A taxi ride would cost between about EUR15 and EUR20 and takes about 15 minutes. The bus ride to Santa Cruz costs around 9EUR and takes at least one hour. Taxis cost approximately EUR50 and take 45 minutes. Local transport in Tenerife is provided by bus company "Titsa." Single tickets cost from around EUR1.50. Taxis are cheaper here than in Britain, with the minimum fare of EUR5 for 3 km, and then EUR1 per km.

A stay in a hostel or pension runs from around EUR20 a night. A room in a three-star hotel can cost around EUR35 per person per night.
