Fleet
Bahamasair’s fleet currently includes 4 Boeing 737 and 8 De Havilland DHC-8 Canada Dash aircraft.
History
Bahamasair was founded on 18th June 1971 in the capital of Nassau on the island of New Providence after British Airways had stopped flights to the Bahamas because of fuel problems during the worldwide oil crisis. After other airlines such as the former Pan Am had also stopped operating scheduled flights to the Bahamas, the national airline successfully “took off”. From then on it also provided flights to the north east of the United States. In the 1980s the airline, expanded not only regionally but also tried to expand its routes to the north-east of the United States. However, it soon realised that these attempts did not bring the expected success. In order to win over these lucrative customers, Bahamasair has for some time provided passengers with the possibility of reserving flights to USA destinations on its website, which are in actual fact operated by American partners such as U.S. Airways, Spirit Airlines or Jetblue Airways.
Network
Bahamasair’s network includes about 26 different destinations based on the Bahamas, Cuba and Florida. Some of these destinations operated from the hub in Nassau include Havana, Orlando, Inagua, Rock Sound, Treasure Cay, West Palm Beach and Mangrove Cay.
