Why visit the Bodrum Peninsula in the Turkish Aegean?

On May 19, the founder of the Turkish state, Atatürk, is commemorated. In the same month, music lovers get their money's worth at the International Bodrum Dance Festival. What do you need to know before flying to Bodrum?

Travellers should keep in mind that water and food may contain germs so should avoid drinking tap water and exercise caution when eating fresh foods. It is advisable to avoid ice in drinks.

Restaurant food is inexpensive at about 15-20 TRY, soft drinks cost about 3.50 TRY and beer about 8 TRY. Haggling for goods in the markets is expected.
Bodrum: Accommodation and local transport
Recommended transfer from the airport is the Havas bus for about 10 TRY. For a taxi, pre-book and calculate with about 80 TRY, hailing a taxi is much more expensive. For local transport, the minibuses are cheap.
Prices for overnight stays vary depending on the season and degree of luxury. If you want to spend the night cheaply, you can do so in a hostel from about 37 TRY per night.
