Schiphol airport has a fast and regular train service to central Amsterdam with a journey time of around 15 minutes. Single tickets cost around 4 EUR. The airport bus service connects Schiphol to Leidseplein in central Amsterdam in around 35 minutes. Getting around Amsterdam is inexpensive by public transport. A 24 hour ticket for trams and buses costs around 8 EUR and it is also possible to buy single tickets for tram journeys. Amsterdam has been on the backpacker trail since the 1960s and still offers a wide range of budget accommodation. Hostel beds start from around 20 EUR per night with cheap hotel rooms available from around 45 EUR.
