Useful information about the flight from Riyadh to Mumbai

Behold the City of Dreams

Also known as Bollywood, Mumbai is a bustling metropolis that caters to every taste. From modern architecture to age old temples, and from the largest shopping malls to the colourful street bazaars, find just what you are looking for in Mumbai.

Choose your date

Mumbai's weather has three main seasons. It is best to avoid the time of the monsoon from June to September. The best season for visiting is winter, between November and February, with temperatures between 17°C and 30°C approximately. You can enjoy Diwali in winter, which is the festival of lights.  If you have an adventurous heart you can visit Mumbai in March for Holi, the Festival of Colour, which marks the beginning of spring. Alternatively, witness Ganesh Chaturthi in August or September - 10 days of celebrations and processions in honour of Ganesha.

Considerations before your holiday

Every visitor needs a visa which can be obtained from the Indian High Commission. Make sure you have all your vaccines and boosters. It is especially recommended to be immunized for Hepatitis A, Tetanus and Typhoid. You might also want to consider getting vaccines for Cholera (during the monsoon), Hepatitis B, Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies.
A good health tip is to avoid drinking tap water. It is also advisable to eat only boiled or fried foods, and to peel all fruits and vegetables before eating them. During the dry season smog is a prevalent problem in the city, so be prepared.

Once you arrive

Living costs are much lower in India than in the UK, so finding transportation, food and lodging for every budget is not hard. The airport is 28 km from the city centre, but a prepaid taxi gets you there for around 450 to 600 Indian Rupees. Once in the city you have the choice of train, bus or taxi. Trains are very crowded during rush hour and are probably best left to the experienced. A bus day pass is about 70 Rs, and you need a Smart Photo Id card to get one. Taxis are cheap, the minimum fare is 21 Rs for the first 1.5 km and 1 Rs for every 100 meters after that. Accommodation in Mumbai is more expensive than in the rest of India, yet you can find cheap guest houses in South Mumbai, Colaba, or near railway stations. A hostel room goes for about 250 Rs, and you can find 3 star hotels for around 4000 Rs. Eating can also be cheap, starting with budget meals at around 200 Rs (approximately £2).
