Lahore from November till May 

Typically the temperatures between November and March are in the late teens and early twenties and the best time to visit Lahore is during those months. It can be very hot between May and September. If you want to experience the huge downpour of the monsoon, the season falls between June and September, but be warned and come prepared! 

Pakistan visas, prices and other facts

To travel to Pakistan all British passport holders require visas, while your passport must be valid for at least six months on the day you apply for your visa.

You will find the cost of living in Pakistan much lower than in the UK. Cheap restaurant meals are easily found for around 200 PKR. For a non-alcoholic drink you will pay roughly 50 PKR; a bottle of water from a supermarket costs about 50 PKR. Some of the well-known local dishes are "Nihari" which is a lamb or beef stew, and "Mithai" are the sweets.

Lahore airport transport and local tips

The Alama Iqbal International airport is the largest in Pakistan and from there you can reach the Lahore city centre by taxi for around 600 PKR to Gulberg, the commercial area. It will cost about 800-1,000 PKR to the old city and the journey takes between twenty and thirty minutes. If you are looking for something more economical then public bus is the cheapest, bus number B-08 is around thirty five PKR to the main bus station. Check if your hotel runs a shuttle service.

Accommodation in Lahore is varied and you can shop around for what suits your needs best. There are local hostels for about 500 PKR for a single or a good hotel (3 stars) for around 4,500 PKR.

Transport around this wonderful city is also varied; buses will be from around 18 PKR while the Lahore Metrobus has its own bus track and is faster. It costs about 20PKR for a single trip. For a deposit of approximately 130 PKR you can buy a rechargeable ticket. For visiting the walled city, either walk or take a rickshaw, making sure to negotiate the fare. Try not to use the very crowded minivans and take taxis seldom, ordering them in advance. The Metro is under construction.
