Before you travel - Visa, vaccinations, safety and cost of living

A passport with a validity of at least 6 months from the date of entry into Kenya is a must. There should be at least two blank pages in the passport. In addition, travellers from the UK are required to be in possession of a visa, which may be obtained from the airport or online from evisas. It is a good idea to ensure that vaccinations, such as tetanus, diptheria and polio, are up to date. It is advised to get vaccinated against rabies, yellow fever, and meningitis. Be sure to apply mosquito repellent to the skin, and use a mosquito net. The cost of living in Nairobi is significantly less than in London. For example, a meal at an inexpensive restaurant costs about £2.54, public transport fares are approximately 32 pence, and a mid-range bottle of wine costs around £4.75.
