Dubai is a holiday hot spot in the UAE, glitz and glamour will shine here throughout any visit and you'll have plenty to do when there. From its ultra-modern architecture to its designer shopping centres Dubai simply never fails to impress those who visit it. Dubai is well known for its luxury elements, including its nightlife, indoor ski centres and man-made islands. On the southeast coast of the Persian Gulf, Dubai is the most populated city in the United Arab Emirates. Accommodation is everywhere and caters to many different tastes so you'll be sure to find something you're happy with.

Travel at the Right Time

One of the things to consider with Dubai is its climate, whilst it is subtropical all year round, you may want to avoid their summer months when the temperatures can sky rocket up to a sizzling 45°C. Visit between October and April when temperatures are lower. Dubai is host to many national and Islamic holidays, the 2nd of December is the UAE National Day marking the UAE's nationalisation. The end of Eid is also a wonderful and very important holiday for Dubai also known as the Sugar Feast and Sweet Festival. During this festival many shopkeepers will give away free chocolate and sweets to those making purchases and many will decorate their homes and businesses.

What to Know Before You Go

If you visit Dubai during Ramadan then you need to be very aware of the rules and regulations surrounding this very holy time. Eating, drinking and smoking are not allowed in public places during Ramadan. Alcohol can only ever be consumed on licensed premises or in private homes, never in public or in a place without a license. The cost of living in Dubai is generally lower than it is in London and restaurant prices can be significantly lower at around 45% less than you'd pay in London. Goods imported from Europe will be more expensive but you will find that electronics are cheaper so keep that in mind if you're looking for a good deal on a camera or laptop. Be aware when you're travelling that Dubai time is GST this is four hours ahead of GMT.
