Useful information about the flight from Kuwait to Lahore

Lahore: Pakistan's cultural heart

Lahore, the lively, cultural hub of Pakistan, is well known for its festivals, film, musical, culinary and art events. It's also the world's fourteenth most populous city and Pakistan's second largest metropolis.

Best travelling time

The best weather in Lahore occurs during November through to March. From May to September, temperatures can be very hot and the monsoon season falls between June and September.

Pre-travel hints

All British citizens need visas to enter into Pakistan, and your passport needs to be valid for at least 6 months from the day you apply.

Lahore is in a high risk malaria region, so be sure to get advice from your doctor before leaving about the types of medication you'll need. Polio, Tetanus, Hepatitis A, Diphtheria, Typhoid, and Rabies vaccines are also often recommended.

It is prohibited to consume alcoholic beverages in public places in Lahore. Pakistan actually has severe punishments in place (including the death penalty) for adultery, blasphemy, and drug possession and use.

The cost of living in Pakistan is a lot lower than that in the UK, and a cheap restaurant meal will cost you around 200 PKR. Non-alcoholic drinks prices are in the region of 50 PKR and bottled water from the supermarket costs approximately 50 PKR. Typical local dishes include specialities like lamb or beef stew, known as "Nihari", and sweets called "Mithai".

Lahore: on arrival

A taxi from the airport to Gulberg might cost around 600 PKR, and between 800 to 1,000 PKR if heading to the old city. This journey can take anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes. Public buses also provide services from the airport and are a cheaper option. The B-08 bus costs around 35 PKR to the bus station. Selected hotels provide shuttle services.

Hostels are affordable, costing around 500 PKR per person, while 3 star hotels will be approximately 4,500 PKR.

Expect to pay around 18 PKR for bus fares. The Lahore Metrobus has its own bus track, which means services are faster. Single fares cost approximately 20 PKR. You'll need to pay a deposit of around 130 PKR for a rechargeable ticket, or token.

The Lahore Metro is currently under construction. Walk, or take a rickshaw to visit the walled city, but negotiate fares beforehand. Taxis are rarely used, so be sure to order in advance if you need one. It's also a good idea to avoid using minivans in Lahore, as they can get extremely crowded.
