Useful information about the flight from Kuala Lumpur to Manila

Visit the Pearl of the Orient

Manila is the capital city of the Philippines and part of the municipality of Pateros. With an eclectic mix of modern life and history there will be something to please everyone in Manilla. This city boasts many museums, shops, cafés and wonderful nightlife so you can shop by day and party by night. Its nickname, Pearl of the Orient, is fitting seeing as Manila's hard exterior gives way to some splendid and exotic jewels within.

Time it Right

While Manila is lovely and warm all year round you will want to avoid the rainy season, which is between November and April. Going between June and October may mean you experience typhoons which can be a real dampener on a holiday. The Philippines is a Catholic country so Easter and Christmas can be really fun times to visit as you can see the city of Manilla celebrating these events in full bloom. The Feast of the Black Nazarine is on the 9th January and several other saints are celebrated throughout the year with festivals and stunning displays.

Get Your Facts Right

You don't need a visa if you're going to Manilla for less than 30 days but make sure that you have at least 6 months validity left on your passport before you travel. Make sure to take a trip to your local clinic to be vaccinated against cholera, hepatitis A, rabies, tetanus, typhoid and diphtheria. It's also advised to have photo ID on your person at all times. Always use bottled water for drinking, rinsing food and brushing your teeth, make sure to peel or cook fruit and vegetables before eating. The good news is that the cost of living is much cheaper than in the UK with restaurants being around half the price. Don't forget that Manilla goes by PHT time zone, which is 8 hours ahead of GMT and 7 hours ahead of British summer time.

Getting Around

There's a bus shuttle service from the airport that operates from 5am until 10pm from terminal 3 to the Barclaran station and from terminal 1 and 2 to the city, you can also get taxis and jeepneys (minibuses) from the airport. Budget hotel stays will cost you around 500 pesos - this is around £7 - even luxury hotels are much cheaper than in the UK. Public transport is very cheap, tickers cost around 22 pesos, approx. equivalent to 30p. Make sure to haggle with taxis and negotiate the price in advance.
