This vibrant destination is home to approximately 3.3 million residents and has an excellent choice of museums and art galleries for tourists to enjoy. 

Weather, festivals and other events

Summers are hot in Tel Aviv and winters are wet, making the months from April to October the best times to visit. 

Festivals include Passover, which commemorates the Hebrew exodus from Egypt, and this event is held between March and April. Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, occurs in September, while Hanukkah, the festival of lights, begins in December. However, exact dates vary. 

General Tel Aviv tips

You won't need a travel visa if visiting for less than 3 months. Be sure to retain the stamped entry card given to you upon arrival until you leave. Your passport must be valid at least 6 months from entry dates.

All usual vaccines should be up to date and Hepatitis A is recommended. Hepatitis B and Rabies jabs are also worth considering. When shopping in the markets be prepared to haggle as prices are extremely high. 

Snacks in Tel Aviv include specialities such as falafel, which costs around 15 ILS, while you'll spend about 30 ILS for restaurant dishes, with beer costing approximately 10 ILS. 

Transport and accommodation advice

The train from the airport at Terminal 3 operates at 30 to 60 minute intervals. It takes around 20 minutes to get to Tel Aviv and costs approximately 14 ILS. Taxis cost around 140 ILS. 

Alternatively, take the number 5 bus from "Egged" to the El Al crossroads, the motorway 40, then catch the public city bus to complete your journey.

Single rooms cost around 180 ILS, while hostel beds in shared rooms cost approximately 90 ILS. 

The public transport system is very efficient and the Rav-Tav ticket, a rechargeable chip card for buses, offers 20% off fares. Single tickets cost around 6.90 ILS. 

Taxis are considerably pricey, while Sherut shared taxis can cost anything between 6 to 8 ILS. An additional 20% is added to night-time rates.
