Basics about Bangkok    

British nationals with a valid passport for at least six months from date of entry do not require a visa for a stay of up to 30 days in Thailand. Prior to your trip, the following vaccinations are recommended: Hepatitis A, Typhus, Tetanus, Dyphtheria, Rabies, Malaria prophylaxis (ask your GP).

Avoid displays of any negative emotions including anger when in Thailand, as it is considered rude.  Compared to the UK the price of food is much lower in Thailand.  Generally, the cost of living in Thailand is also lower than the UKs.  Thailand's time zone is GMT+7 and there is no summertime.

Local Bangkok transport and where to stay 

The Airport Rail Link is a reasonable transportation alternative that makes regular stops at Bangkok International Airport with  direct access to the terminal.  The direct train route or the BKK to central Bangkok with Airport Link Express costs approximately 100THB, change here or take a taxi. The Airport City Line (with stops) is slightly cheaper but takes longer.   

Accommodations start at about 360 THB upwards.  Popular hotel areas include Sukhumvit Road Area, Chinatown, and Khao-San-Road Area. While public transportation is cheap, it is hard to understand.  The Bangkok Metro is cheap and local taxis are accessible, fast and affordable.  Tuk-tuks are considered expensive and tourist traps.
