Useful information about the flight from Dammam to Delhi

Magical and mystical, buzzing, busy, unforgettable Delhi

A fabulous mix of ancient and modern, India's capital city has so much to offer from the Red Fort in the old city to the towering India Gate memorial, the city is a riot of colour and custom which has delighted visitors for hundreds of years. Now more or less two cities, New Delhi is a sprawling 21st century mass where government and modern buildings dominate, that started to spread from 'old' Delhi at the start of the 20th century. The culture and food is diverse and rich, with Muslim, Hindu and Sikh influences, and modern Indians also have a healthy attitude to a 21st century consumer culture too.

Perfect time for Delhi

Due to the monsoon and very high summertime temperatures, visit Delhi from October to March when it's pleasantly warm. Try a trip in March (dates vary each year) for the Hindu Holi festival which is wonderful. Or risk the weather being humid and go for the Independence day parade on August 15th which is a grand and lively affair.

Preparing for your trip

To visit you will need to contact the Indian High Commission for a visa. Your passport needs 2 blank pages for the visa and to be valid for at least 180 days at time of application. A valid polio vaccine certificate is needed if arriving from some countries, and recommended vaccines to be up to date on are; hepatitis A, typhoid, tetanus and diphtheria. Women should take especial care when travelling alone, as the culture is very different to European culture. Indian prices are much lower than UK prices apart from branded electronics, which cost about the same. India Standard Time is UTC/GMT +5:30 hours and as there's no daylight saving time, Delhi is therefore only 4 and a half hours ahead of the UK in summer.

Getting about Delhi

For airport transfer to the centre take the metro line 2, which runs from 04.40 till 23.30, or use the shuttle bus to Connaught Place. You can also take a taxi. Delhi's prices for guest houses and hostels start at about 500 INR per night. Three star, economy hotels are about 1400 INR/night/person. The public transport network is cheap and bustling, but fairly good. There are buses and a metro and, of course, rickshaws which are fun. Taxis are much cheaper than in the UK.
