Make the Most of Your Mumbai Holiday
Mumbai, the most populous city in India, is the capital of India's state of Maharashtra. Visit this modern city to experience a unique mix of cosmopolitan city life and traditional festivals and cultural events.
Best Time to Travel to Mumbai
Mumbai's tropical climate enjoys three seasons: Summer, Monsoon and Winter. The best time to visit is during the winter months, between November and February, when temperatures typically reach a maximum of 30°C and a minimum of 17°C. Avoid visiting Mumbai during the monsoon season, which runs from June to September.
Travel to Mumbai during Holi festival at the full moon in March. Or visit during Ganesh Chaturthi in August and September, which is 10 days of celebrations and processions. Diwali, the festival of lights in October, is a festive event including fireworks and lights.
Good to Know Before You Go
Visas are necessary for travellers coming into Mumbai and are available from the Indian High Commission. Be sure that you have all necessary vaccines and boosters before you leave home. Recommended immunisations include Hepatitis A, Tetanus and Typhoid. Some travellers may also want to consider Cholera if they are planning a trip during the monsoon season), Hepatitis B, Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies. Most visitors avoid drinking the tap water in India. Stick to boiled, fried food, and be sure to peel vegetables and fruit before eating to avoid nasty infections. Smog is prevalent during the dry season and can make your stay unpleasant. Living costs are much lower in India. You can get a budget meal from about 200 Indian Rupees (approximately £2).
